TsegBall is more than just a game for schools and recreation, however. The game proved to also serves as a way to help young people who have behavioral problems. On April 19, 2002, this new ball game was introduced at the Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health in Rockville, one of the biggest rehab centers in Maryland. It was introduced to youth-victims and perpetrators of sexual abuse and those with psychiatric problems. A number of people ages 15 to 18 participated in the game for the first time.

"I really like this non-contact game!" exclaimed John, who was at the rehab center for sexual assault. "When I want to get the ball from my opponent, I have to remember not to touch the other person. That will help me keep my hands from people."

"It has been hard for me to learn to trust men again ever since I was a rape victim," said Albertine. "But playing this game helps me feel different. Even though there are men on the field, I feel safer since there is no body contact. I don't have to worry that I will be touched."

"This is unlike other games. It's the first game I have seen that can help in the rehab process, especially in working with sexual offenders and victims among young people," said Kristen Sundeen, a social worker at the center. "And at the same time they can get some exercise and have fun."
